Vince McMahon has announced his retirement as WWE’s chairman and CEO on Friday afternoon in a press release.

The announcement of his retirement comes only days after it was revealed that WWE’s board was looking into settlements he reached with former female WWE employees.

While McMahon released a full statement about his retirement and career, he also tweeted, “At 77, time for me to retire. Thank you, WWE Universe.”

In the statement he released, Mcmahon said, “Throughout the years, it’s been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you. I would like to thank my family for mightily contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present Superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand.”

His daughter, Stephanie McMahon, has taken over as interim CEO and board chairman.
