Trevor Bauer announced to Twitter yesterday that he filed a defamation and tortious interference lawsuit against the San Diego woman who accused him of sexual misconduct.

Bauer also named one of her attorneys, Fred Thiagarajah, in the suit, for allegedly making false statements about Bauer to the media.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Bauer’s legal team states in the lawsuit, “Defendant Lindsey Hill fabricated allegations of sexual assault against Plaintiff Trevor Bauer, pursued bogus criminal and civil actions against him, made false and malicious statements about him, and generated a media blitz based on her lies.”

“Ms. Hill’s motives for making her false claims and statements are now clear,” the lawsuit states. “She wanted to destroy Mr. Bauer’s reputation and baseball career, garner attention for herself, and extract millions of dollars from Mr. Bauer.”

The lawsuit continues, “Ms. Hill was aided in those efforts by her attorney, Defendant Niranjan Fred Thiagarajah. Although a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge rejected Ms. Hill’s false allegations and the District Attorney for Los Angeles County found them unworthy of criminal charges, the damage to Mr. Bauer has been extreme.”

Last July, Bauer was placed on administrative leave under the joint domestic violence and sexual assault policy of Major League Baseball and the players’ association. Despite constantly being extended, the leave expires this Friday.

Bauer signed a three-year, $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers after earning his first Cy Young Award with the Cincinnati Reds in 2020. He didn’t throw again after June 29 and ended the season with an 8-2 record and 2.59 ERA in 17 outings.

Bauer sued The Athletic and a former writer for defamation last month, accusing them of “developing and promoting the false story” that he broke the woman’s skull.

He had also filed a lawsuit against Deadspin last month.
