Thursday morning, Houston attorney Tony Buzbee announced he has filed a lawsuit against the San Antonio Spurs on behalf of Dr. Hillary Cauthen amid allegations surrounding free agent point guard Joshua Primo. Cauthen is a former Spurs employee who has claimed Primo exposed himself to her on numerous occasions, and that the Spurs organization failed to act.

Buzbee represented more than two dozen women who accused Browns’ quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct, in addition to currently leading a battery case against Saints running back Alvin Kamara.

The player is owed $8.4 million over the next two seasons after going unclaimed on the waiver wire. Primo was waived due to accusations of exposing himself to women multiple times, including Cauthen. Buzbee says Cauthen intends to file a criminal complaint against Primo and is working with law enforcement in an alleged criminal investigation.

A statement was released by Primo’s attorney, William J. Briggs, II. Briggs has not only denied the allegations made against his client, but also claims Primo is being “victimized” by Cauthen.

“He is now being victimized by his former team appointed sports psychologist, who is playing to ugly stereotypes and racially charged fears for her own financial benefit.”

“What makes the allegations even less credible is that Dr. Cauthen never informed her patient of the purported exposure. Dr. Cauthen was Mr. Primo’s mental health support provider and confidant; a therapist who Mr. Primo trusted. She is much older than Mr. Primo, with many years of experience as a sports psychologist. It is baffling why she did not bother to tell her patient that his private parts were visible underneath his shorts.”

The 19-year-old told the media that he is continuing to get the help that he needs to treat his previous trauma, after he was released from the team. Meanwhile, the Spurs have issued a brief statement that also denies the allegations made by Buzbee in Thursday’s presser. The team is opting to let the legal process play out before offering any further comment on the situation.

Buzbee said to media that Cauthen was hired by the Spurs as a staff employee “to help the players be better players and better people.” The lawyer called the role a “dream job” for Cauthen, who is a former college athlete.

“It was almost the very first session that she had with Joshua Primo where he exposed his penis to her. That occurred in late December of 2021. She immediately raised that issue with the general manager of the Spurs organization in January of 2022. It took a long time for her to get a meeting with him…. but she finally got a face to face with the General Manager and told him what had happened and wanted something to be done about it.”
