New York is all the buzz right now ahead of the launch of mobile betting and experts expect approximately $10 billion in sports betting each year. The State and Operators expect a take of over $1 billion a year.

Supporters of mobile sports betting are pleased that New York will have the program running before the Super Bowl.

Until now, New York gamblers had to trek to upstate casinos to place bets. Many city residents placed their phone bets through New Jersey.

Mobile operators have agreed to pay a 51 percent tax on gross revenues to the state of New York and the state has already received in the ballpark of 200 million dollars in licensing fees from operators.

Not everyone is excited for this weekend. Some worry, that the availability of mobile betting will lead to gambling addictions. Some operators, like DraftKings, have promised to screen for people making large wagers and make sure those who cannot afford to are not misusing the system.

New York officials plan to devote around $6 million a year, from the annual revenue, to support gambling addiction programs.

If you or someone you know needs help with a gambling problem, please reach out anonymously to the numbers or resources below. For those who gamble responsibly, for fun and within their means, enjoy the new resources available in the state of New York! Good luck with your wagers!
