Buenos Aires Man Allegedly Hijacks Bus Full of Passengers After Running Late To Argentina World Cup Game
A Buenos Aires man is under arrest after he allegedly hijacked a bus full of passengers to transport himself in a hurry to a World Cup game after he was running late. The incident, which may remind some of a scene out of the 90’s movie Speed, featuring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, shocked passengers and the driver.
The passenger, who is facing a charge for Auto theft, allegedly decided to throw himself behind the wheel of the bus when he realized the countdown for the start of the match of the Argentine National Team against Croatia had begun.
The alleged hijacking occurred on Tuesday in the heart of the Buenos Aires town of Ciudad Santa María, in San Miguel, according to the website TN.com.
The bus on line 440 had reportedly just started its journey, after leaving Fraga and Avenida Ricardo Balbín. The bus reportedly was stopped a traffic light and the driver said he was going to buy something at a kiosk, and that’s when the now arrested man allegedly took the wheel.
A press release from the Diario Efecto, said that after the surprised driver filed a complaint, a quick police operation helped intercept the rushing fan near the intersection of Callao and Maestro Ferreyra streets.
The official cause of arrest was listed as “apprehension for automotive theft.”
The fan failed to make the game but he may be relieved to know that the Argentine National Team clinched a spot in the World Cup final after beating Croatia 3-0.
