WNBA’s Brittney Griner will officially have been taken into custody by the Russians for 134 days by the time her Friday trial comes around. Griner is facing a felony charge that, if convicted, will sentence her to 10 years in prison. According to U.S legal experts, Griner will be the subject of a show trial, and a guilty verdict is “almost a certainty”.

“It’s a foregone conclusion and the trial is to uphold the state and confirm the power of the state. Justice is not the immediate issue.” Russian law expert William Pomeranz stated. Brittney Griner, 31-years old, plays for the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. She previously played at Baylor during her collegiate career.

The question now is, if it’s almost certain that Griner will be convicted, what point is there in her having a trial? What will happen from her trial and afterwards?
