Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees put social media rumors to rest Wednesday, confirming he is not leaving Notre Dame to join Brian Kelly at LSU. On the heels of Kelly’s dramatic departure, Rees decided to make his announcement the opposite way. He stood in front of the team and told them in person, in a heartfelt speech.

“I love you guys, I love this place. I believe that we can win a National Championship,” Rees said.

He continued, “This is where my heart is. My heart is with you guys and I care too much to leave this place. This is where I wanna be. This is where I wanna win a National Championship and I wanted to be able to tell you guys in person.”

“Some of you might be happy, some of you might be pissed,” Rees said, eliciting laughter from the players.

“The most important thing for me was that you guys heard from me upfront,” said Rees, in a clear nod to the Brian Kelly controversy. Players found out that their Coach was leaving on social media. Kelly’s abrupt departure and fleeting three minute speech have been frowned upon on social media. The longtime Notre Dame Coach abandoned the team for an LSU contract worth $95 million dollars.
