Wilfried Happio Wins National Title Despite Being Physically Assaulted 20-Minutes Prior
Twenty minutes prior to the start of the 400-meter hurdle race at the French Elite Athletics Championships, French hurdler Wilfried Happio was physically assaulted by an anonymous assailant. The suspect was reportedly arrested shortly after; however, the motive for the attack is still unknown. Despite being victimized, not only did Happio still compete in the event with an eyepatch on, he also won the national title on Saturday.
Happio now qualifies for the World Championships in July after finishing with a new personal best record of 48.57 seconds.
