After Florida Gators quarterback Jalen Kitna was arrested in Florida on Wednesday, police stated that they discovered Kitna had allegedly distributed images of “child sexual abuse material” through use of the Discord social media app. Discord is a voice, video, and text chat app that’s used by tens of millions of people, ages 13+, to talk and hang out with their communities and friends.

Police say they received a tip from a Discord user, and an investigation was launched into the social media account. Police learned that the Discord user account they focused on allegedly belonged to Kitna. A search warrant was obtained by Gainesville Police Department. When contacted by police at the quarterback’s place of residence, the 19-year-old allegedly acknowledged that he shared two pictures that he found online as he believed them to be legal, according to law enforcement sources.

More images containing child sexual abuse material were allegedly found in Kitna’s electronic devices after police conducted a search, officials say. As a result, the player was later taken into custody and booked on five child pornography charges — two counts of distribution of child exploitation material and three counts of possession of child pornography. The Gators issued a statement on Kitna’s arrest, announcing that the quarterback would be indefinitely suspended.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the news involving Jalen Kitna,” the statement reads. “These are extremely serious charges and the University of Florida and the UAA have zero tolerance for such behavior. Jalen has been suspended indefinitely from the football program.”

Jalen is the son of former NFL quarterback Jon Kitna. Jon is the former 2019 quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
