Pierre Bouteyre has reportedly been charged with alleged rape and sexual assault after 25-year-old Tennis star Fiona Ferro accused the coach of raping her. Ferro claims that the assaults happened between the years 2012 and 2015, when she was a teenager and Bouteyre was employed as her private coach.

Ferro issued a statement on Twitter, saying that she has “full confidence” in her country’s justice system and she doesn’t want to offer any further comment on the criminal investigation.

Bouteyre’s attorney issued a statement in response to the allegations, claiming that his client “recognizes the relationship occurred but denies any coercion”. Bouteyre’s attorney also said that “it was a love story” according to his client. According to ESPN’s Aishwarya Kumar, French Tennis Federation president Gilles Moretton stated that the organization is supporting Ferro while also respecting the “presumption of innocence”.

“We would like to express our support for Fiona Ferro, while respecting the presumption of innocence, at a time that we know is particularly difficult for her. The FFT’s sports integrity unit is currently assisting her and we will do everything we can to help her rebuild her life.”

Ferro is currently ranked the No. 259 player in the world, after having reached a career high of 39th last year in March. Ferro’s record in singles action this season is 8-14, and has recently competed in the qualifier for the 2022 U.S Open.
