Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase, one of the men accused of allegedly plotting to kill retired professional baseball legend David Ortiz, has been killed after being gunned down in broad daylight, according to police in the Dominican Republic.

Rivas-Clase was chased by several individuals in a vehicle through the north of Santiago, reports Dominican Republic’s largest Newspaper Listin Diario. His car tires went flat during the chase causing his car to crash. Rivas-Clase then tried to flee via foot but was shot in front of a shopping center. The suspects left the scene and have not yet been identified.

Authorities say they found twenty-seven bullet shells at the scene when they arrived.
Col. Antonio Calvo Perez says Rivas-Clase was wanted in connection with various crimes allegedly committed this year.

More notably, he was connected to the June 2019, shooting of former Red Sox player David Ortiz in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Authorities say Ortiz was sitting next to the intended victim, when he was shot in the back instead.

Twelve individuals were arrested in connection with the shooting, Rivas-Clase was one of those twelve.

David Ortiz underwent surgery and has made a full recovery following the incident.
