Here’s Why Some Are Comparing Unexpected NASCAR Win To A Scene Straight Out of Talladega Nights
NASCAR driver Brandon Brown’s dreams came true Saturday when he scored his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series win in his 114th career start.
The action went down at Talladega Superspeedway in a race that did not go the full 300 miles after being shortened from its original 113-lap distance to 107 due to darkness.
It was a real underdog win as just three months prior Brown made a video pleading for sponsors with a for sale sticker on his car hood.
In his post race interview, an ecstatic Brown said:
“Oh my God, this is a dream come true! Wow, Talladega! Oh my God, Dad, we did it…This is just everything we have hoped and dreamed for. This is everything Iโve ever wanted to do was take the trophy home to Mom and Dad.โ
But the heartwarming NBC interview turned straight parody when politicized, profanity filled chants arose in the background and the reporter tried to soften the effect by pretending the fans were cheering for Brown rather than deriding President Joe Biden.
Many on social media called the well intentioned reporter out, as people debated what the crowd was actually saying, with many who claim to have attended in person saying it was “f*** Joe Biden.”
The reporter reacted on-air by telling Brown the crowd was cheering “Let’s Go Brandon.”
The video set off a firestorm of memes overshadowing Brown’s touching story of personal triumph.
But perhaps more entertaining than the scene drawing comparisons to the film Talladega Nights, was Brown’s emotional audio as he approached the finish line and realized he was about to win the race, screaming “thank you dad, we did it dad, we did it!.” Check it out below.
