Florida Head Coach Billy Napier on NIL: “There’s Pros and Cons To This”

Billy Napier talked about NIL, among other things, in his press conference this past weekend. The Gators are currently in spring practice.
“I think there’s a ton of variables here, relative to the transfer portal, name, image and likeness. I believe it’s our job to equip the players, and it’s our job to educate the players. It’s our job to use any and all resources that we have to help the players.” Napier said. “I don’t necessarily — there’s pros and cons of this.”
Napier continued on, talking about balancing the futures of the players with the short-term. “But I do think that we’ve got to be careful here. That we’re not making short-term decisions that may affect their future. There’s got to be, it’s part of the decision, but it’s not all of the decision.”
Napier also says that NIL shouldn’t be the only reason you pick a school.
“It’s about a holistic approach, it’s about leadership development, character education. Creating experiences for the player, so that their perspective changes on life. Their approach changes while they’re a student. We want to have a place where we’re using football, and football is not using them, does that make sense?”
