Deshaun Watson Settles 20 Of 24 Lawsuits
According to the Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing all of the women currently suing Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, announced a deal has been struck with all but four of the 24 women who sued Watson and accused him of sexual assault during massage sessions in 2020 and early 2021.
Tony Buzbee released a statement regarding the settled cases, saying, “Today I announce that all cases against Deshaun Watson, with the exception of four, have settled. We are working through the paperwork related to those settlements. Once we have done so, those particular cases will be dismissed. The terms and amounts of the settlements are confidential. We won’t comment further on the settlements or those cases.”
Brian McCarthy, head of PR for the NFL, told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that these settlements “have no impact on the collectively bargained disciplinary process.”
Earlier this month, Watson had said he had been hoping to clear his name.
According to Pro Football Talk, Watson reportedly had a chance to prevent long term damage from being done in early 2021, but his legal representatives refused to entertain negotiations after the first plaintiff requested $100,000 before filing the lawsuit. Watson’s legal team refused to make an offer in response, which reportedly aggravated attorney Tony Buzbee.
PFT reported that the rejection to making an offer by Watsons team sparked a bunch of claims that may have never been filed if Watson and his team had simply settled the first case.
