Brittney Griner’s pretrial detention in Russia has been extended by one month, her laywer says.

Griner’s lawyer, Alexander Boikov, told The Associated Press that the detentions short extension indicated that the case would be tried soon.

The Biden administration has previously been on record saying Griner, 31, is being wrongfully detained. The WNBA and U.S. officials have negotiated her release with Russian authorities, but no visible progress has been made.

Griner was held at the Moscow airport when vape cartridges containing cannabis oil were allegedly discovered in her luggage, a crime punishable by up to ten years in jail.
