During Brittney Griner’s trial on Friday, Griner’s attorney Maria Blagovolina presented the Russian court with a U.S doctors note that recommended for the Phoenix Mercury star to use medical cannabis to treat pain. Griner pled guilty to the charge, acknowledging that she had possession of cannabis oils but maintains her claim that she had no criminal intent. If convicted, Griner could face up to 10 years in prison.

“The attending physician gave Brittney recommendations for the use of medical cannabis. The permission was issued on behalf of the Arizona Department of Health,” stated Griner’s lawyer. The next hearing of Griner’s case is scheduled for July 26.
