AEW Issues Suspensions Following Backstage Brawl Involving Champion CM Punk
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, multiple AEW members have been suspended following a backstage brawl that took place after the AEW: All Out pay-per-view special. Suspensions were issued to Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Brandon Cutler, Pat Buck, Michael Nakazawa, and Christopher Daniels. The status of AEW World Champion CM Punk currently remains unclear, but Sapp reports that Ace Steel was taken off the road. Sports Illustrated is reporting that Steel and Punk could either be among those suspended, or have their contracts terminated with All Elite Wrestling by end of day on Wednesday.
CM Punk’s post-match press conference took the world of wrestling by storm, overshadowing the return of AEW star Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF). CM Punk reportedly went off script, turning his press conference into a shock when he made mention of former friend Colt Cabana. Allegations surrounding Punk include that Cabana’s move to Ring of Honor was a direct result of Punk and his dislike for him. Punk has adamantly denied all allegations, claiming he had no type of involvement in Cabana’s career. Punk reportedly believes that the “Cabana to Ring of Honor” rumors originated from leaks within AEW. Omega and The Young Bucks were named as potential suspects, who may have spread the allegations.
Cody Nichols of Beyond Wrestling posted a video of Punk’s press conference, showing that the AEW star not only went off on Cabana, but also fellow AEW star Hangman Adam Page.
Following his press conference, Punk reportedly left the press room and ran into Omega and The Young Bucks in the locker room. Heated words were exchanged between the opposing parties, and it ultimately led to a physical altercation. Officials say that an external third-party will be conducting an investigation to determine what happened during the backstage brawl.
